Classwork

Global Product Development

  • Visited 24 companies in 5 countries to conduct an in-depth comparative analysis of the product development processes used in a global economy (Spain, Italy, Romania, Greece, and United States)

  • Gained exposure to the design processes used in a variety of industries

Capstone

  • Team Lead for one year over more than 20 enrolled and volunteer engineers participating in the University Rover Challenge

  • Learned and applied many design tools to improve rover performance over previous generations while still reducing weight

Product Design

  • Produced low-cost Pineapple Processor to increase local farmer profitability in Itacoatiara, Brazil

  • Design was validated by customers in Brazil and improvements made based on feedback

  • Product chosen by Professor for further development

Compliant Mechanisms

  • Used the pseudo-rigid body model to analyze the force-deflection relationship of compliant mechanisms

  • Conducted compliant mechanism synthesis and rigid body replacement

  • Course taught by the father of compliant mechanisms, Larry Howell

Mechatronics

  • Designed and built small robot to autonomously locate itself in prescribed arena and fire ping pong balls through a lit up hoop

  • Designed and printed custom PCBs
